Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare strawberries: In a medium bowl, toss the sliced strawberries with 1/4 cup granulated sugar. Cover and let sit for at least 30 minutes to release their juices.
- Make shortcakes: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla in a separate bowl. Pour into the flour mixture and stir until just combined. Pat the dough, cut into rounds, and bake until golden brown.
- Whip cream: Beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
