Description

Mango Lassi is a refreshing and creamy Indian yogurt-based smoothie made with ripe mangoes, yogurt, milk, and a hint of cardamom. Perfect for a hot summer day, this traditional beverage offers a blend of sweet and tangy flavors, making it a delicious and healthy treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit

  • 1 cup ripe mango (fresh or frozen, chopped)

Dairy

  • 3/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup milk

Sweeteners & Spices

  • 2–3 tablespoons honey or sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom (optional)
  • pinch of salt

Optional

  • ice cubes (for a chilled lassi)

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients: In a blender, add the chopped mango, plain yogurt, milk, honey or sugar, ground cardamom if using, and a pinch of salt. This combination blends the vibrant mango flavor with the creamy base and subtle spice.
  2. Blend until smooth: Blend the mixture until it becomes smooth and creamy, ensuring all the mango pieces are fully incorporated and the texture is consistent.
  3. Add ice (optional): If you prefer a chilled lassi, add a few ice cubes to the blender and blend again until frothy and cold.
  4. Taste and adjust: Taste the lassi and add more sweetener if needed, blending briefly to combine any adjustments.
  5. Serve immediately: Pour the mango lassi into glasses and serve right away for the freshest flavor and best texture.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, substitute the dairy yogurt and milk with plant-based alternatives such as coconut yogurt and almond or oat milk.
  • If using canned mango pulp, reduce or eliminate the added sweetener as the pulp is typically already sweetened.
  • Garnish the lassi with a pinch of cardamom powder or chopped pistachios for an authentic traditional touch.
  • Serve chilled and consume immediately for the best taste and texture.
