Dough:

Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Add mix-ins: Fold in the M&Ms and mini chocolate chips, if using.
- Bake: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets. Press extra M&Ms on top of each dough ball. Bake for 10–12 minutes until golden.
- Cool and serve: Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
