Lasagna Noodles:

  • 12 lasagna noodles

Meat Sauce:

  • 1 pound ground beef (or half beef, half Italian sausage)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Cheese Mixture:

  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (for ricotta)
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Additional:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the noodles: in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare the meat sauce: by cooking onion, garlic, and meat until browned. Add tomatoes, paste, and seasonings. Simmer.
  4. Mix the ricotta: with egg and salt.
  5. Assemble the lasagna: layer sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and Parmesan. Repeat layers.
  6. Bake: covered with foil, then uncovered, until bubbly and golden.
  7. Rest: before serving.
