Ingredients
Scale
For the Beef:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
For Serving:
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1 cup sliced cucumber
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add Flavor: Add garlic and ginger; cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 2–3 minutes, allowing flavors to combine and sauce to slightly thicken.
- Assemble: Divide cooked rice among bowls. Top each with the beef mixture, shredded carrots, cucumber slices, and green onions. Garnish with sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
- You can use ground turkey or chicken as a lighter option.
- For extra flavor, add a fried egg on top of each bowl.
- Adjust sweetness and heat by modifying the brown sugar and red pepper flakes.
