Description

This Irresistible Chocolate Cake Donuts recipe delivers moist, rich, and chocolaty donuts baked to perfection in under 30 minutes. Perfect for a sweet breakfast treat or an indulgent dessert, these cake donuts feature a tender crumb with a luscious cocoa glaze that adds the perfect finishing touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2-3 tbsp milk, as needed for consistency

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare donut pan. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan thoroughly to prevent sticking during baking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and granulated sugar until evenly combined.
  3. Combine wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, beat the milk, vegetable oil, and eggs together until the mixture is smooth and homogenous.
  4. Blend wet and dry ingredients. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients bowl and mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix to maintain a tender crumb.
  5. Fill the donut pan. Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full to allow room for rising.
  6. Bake the donuts. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the donuts comes out clean.
  7. Cool the donuts. Remove the pan from the oven and let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and milk until smooth and desired glaze consistency is reached.
  9. Glaze the donuts. Drizzle the cocoa glaze over the cooled donuts and allow the glaze to set slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure not to overmix the batter to keep the donuts light and fluffy.
  • Use a donut pan for best shape and even baking; alternatively, muffin tins can be used but will change the donut shape.
  • For a richer flavor, substitute milk with buttermilk or add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the wet ingredients.
  • The glaze consistency can be adjusted by adding more milk for a thinner glaze or more powdered sugar for a thicker glaze.
  • Store the donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days to maintain freshness.
