Description

Ingredients

For the Fry Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • vegetable oil for frying

For the Taco Filling:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 2/3 cup water

Toppings:

  • shredded lettuce
  • diced tomatoes
  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • sour cream
  • chopped onions
  • sliced jalapeños
  • salsa (all optional)

Instructions

  1. Fry Bread: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add warm water and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 2–3 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Taco Filling: Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat, then add taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  3. Assembly: Divide dough, flatten into rounds, fry in oil until golden brown. Top fry bread with taco meat and desired toppings. Serve warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute the beef with seasoned ground turkey or black beans for a vegetarian version.
  • Fry bread can be made ahead and reheated in the oven to crisp back up.
