Description

Grilled Cheese Burgers combine the best of two classic favorites: hearty, juicy cheeseburgers and crispy, melty grilled cheese sandwiches. These easy-to-make sandwiches feature perfectly seasoned and grilled beef patties layered with cheddar cheese between slices of buttered Texas toast, grilled until golden brown and ooey-gooey. Customize with your favorite toppings for a satisfying main course that’s perfect for casual meals or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Patties

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Sandwich Assembly

  • 8 slices cheddar cheese
  • 8 slices bread (Texas toast or thick sandwich bread)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • Optional toppings: sliced pickles, red onion, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, or mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill or Pan: Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat to ensure the patties cook evenly with a nice sear.
  2. Form and Season Patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape each into patties slightly larger than the bread slices. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  3. Grill Patties: Place patties on the grill and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, or until they reach your preferred doneness. Once cooked, set them aside and keep warm.
  4. Butter Bread Slices: Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice to promote browning and crispiness during grilling.
  5. Assemble Sandwiches in Skillet: Place 4 buttered bread slices, butter side down, onto a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Layer each with a slice of cheddar cheese, a grilled burger patty, another slice of cheese, and then top with a second bread slice butter side up.
  6. Grill Sandwiches: Cook the assembled sandwiches for 2–3 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula to encourage melting and golden crust formation, until the bread is crisp and cheese is melted.
  7. Serve: Serve the grilled cheese burgers hot with your choice of optional toppings such as pickles, onion, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, or mustard.

Notes

  • Customize with different cheese varieties like pepper jack or Swiss for varied flavors.
  • Add cooked bacon or sautéed onions inside the sandwich for extra savory depth.
  • For smaller portions or party servings, use slider buns and mini burger patties.
