- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Black pepper to taste

Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Caramelize Onions: In a skillet, heat olive oil, add onions and salt, cook until caramelized. Stir in sugar and balsamic vinegar.
- Prepare Sausage Filling: Mix ground sausage with thyme, garlic powder, black pepper, and caramelized onions.
- Assemble Rolls: Roll out puff pastry, cut into strips, spoon sausage mixture, add cheese if desired, fold pastry over filling, seal edges.
- Bake: Place rolls on baking sheet, brush with egg wash, bake for 25–30 minutes until golden.
- Serve: Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
