Ingredients

Scale

Meatloaf:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup finely diced onion
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Additional Ingredients:

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 (28-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the meatloaf: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, milk, breadcrumbs, eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until fully combined but do not overmix.
  3. Layer the casserole: Press the meat mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese over the meatloaf. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
  4. Bake: Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until the meat is cooked through and the tater tots are golden and crispy.
  5. Final touches: Remove from the oven, sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese, and return to the oven for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • You can add chopped cooked bacon or diced bell peppers to the meat mixture for extra flavor.
  • For a spicier kick, mix in a few dashes of hot sauce or chopped jalapeños.
