Ingredients
Scale
Egg Mixture
- 4 large eggs
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
Dry Ingredients
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound green cabbage (1/2 medium head or 6 cups finely sliced)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons dill, fresh or frozen, chopped
- 2 tablespoons green onion, finely chopped, plus more to garnish
- 4 ounces mozzarella cheese (1 1/2 cups shredded)
Instructions
- Preheat and prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch round pie dish to prevent sticking.
- Make batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, and mayonnaise until well combined and smooth.
- Add dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and cornstarch. Gradually whisk these dry ingredients into the egg mixture until you have a smooth batter without lumps.
- Prepare cabbage: Place the finely sliced cabbage in a large bowl. Sprinkle with salt and scrunch the cabbage with your hands to soften it and help release moisture. Mix in the chopped green onions and dill thoroughly.
- Assemble and bake: Spread the cabbage mixture evenly in the prepared pie dish. Pour the batter evenly over the cabbage. Top everything with shredded mozzarella cheese. Bake for 35 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown and set in the middle.
Notes
- Scrunching the cabbage with salt helps soften it and removes excess moisture for a better casserole texture.
- You can substitute the mayonnaise and sour cream with Greek yogurt for a tangier and slightly healthier alternative.
- Feel free to add cooked bacon or sausage for a meaty variation.
- Allow the casserole to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving to let it set properly.
- Garnish with extra green onions before serving for a fresh finish.
