Description

This Bubbly Taco Salad Bowl recipe offers a fun and delicious way to enjoy taco salad with crispy homemade tortilla bowls filled with seasoned ground beef and fresh toppings. Perfect for a family dinner or casual get-together, this dish combines crunchy, savory, and fresh flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Tortilla Bowls

  • 4 large flour tortillas (burrito size)
  • Cooking spray or vegetable oil

Beef Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 2/3 cup water

Toppings

  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup canned black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare bowls: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray oven-safe bowls or the back of muffin tins with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Shape the tortilla bowls: Warm the flour tortillas slightly so they become pliable. Press each tortilla into the greased oven-safe bowl or mold it over an inverted muffin tin to create a bowl shape.
  3. Bake the tortilla bowls: Place the shaped tortillas in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove from oven and allow them to cool in the molds before gently removing to retain the bowl shape.
  4. Cook the ground beef: While the bowls bake, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook it until browned and fully cooked through, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess grease from the pan.
  5. Add seasoning and simmer: Stir in the taco seasoning and water with the cooked beef. Lower the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes, letting the sauce thicken and adhere to the meat.
  6. Assemble the salad bowls: Place the crispy tortilla bowls on serving plates. Layer each bowl with the seasoned ground beef, then top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, black beans, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, salsa, and cilantro if desired.
  7. Serve immediately: Enjoy the taco salad bowls right away to ensure the tortilla bowls remain crispy and the flavors stay fresh.

Notes

  • Warming tortillas before shaping helps prevent cracking.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • For extra spice, add jalapeños or hot sauce to the beef mixture.
  • Feel free to customize toppings according to your preference.
  • Ensure bowls are fully cooled before removing to retain shape.
