Description

Learn how to make delicious and crispy batter-dipped fish at home with this easy recipe. Perfect for a family dinner or a weekend indulgence, these golden fried fish fillets are sure to be a hit!

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds white fish fillets (such as cod, haddock, or tilapia)

Batter Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (plus extra for dredging)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water or club soda

Other:

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Lemon wedges and tartar sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish: Pat the fish fillets dry and cut them into desired portions. Lightly dredge each piece in flour and set aside.
  2. Make the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, and paprika. Gradually whisk in the cold sparkling water until a smooth, thick batter forms.
  3. Fry the Fish: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F. Dip each piece of fish into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place it into the hot oil. Fry 2–3 pieces at a time for 4–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve: Serve hot with lemon wedges and tartar sauce.

Notes

  • Keep the batter cold and the oil hot for the crispiest results.
  • For extra crunch, add a bit of rice flour or use beer instead of sparkling water.
  • This recipe also works great with shrimp or vegetables.
